Royal Enfield has recently launched the Bear 650 in India, a stylish scrambler model based on the popular Interceptor 650. As the fifth motorcycle in Royal Enfield’s lineup using the 650 Twin platform, the Royal Enfield Bear 650 is priced between Rs 3.39 lakh to Rs 3.59 lakh (ex-showroom). With its distinct scrambler design and enhanced features, it offers a unique twist compared to the Interceptor 650.
Royal Enfield Bear 650: Distinctive Design and Features
The Royal Enfield Bear 650 stands out with fresh design updates, including new wheel sizes and a scrambler-style raised seat that slopes slightly upward at the back. It sports round LED headlights and taillights, similar to other Royal Enfield models, alongside LED turn signals for added style and visibility. Adding to its scrambler aesthetic are competition number plates on the side panels and a higher ground clearance of 184mm.
Royal Enfield has upgraded the display as well, with a 4.0-inch circular TFT screen, borrowed from the Guerrilla and Himalayan models, replacing the dual-pod console of the Interceptor 650. This new display supports Google Maps and media controls, providing essential ride information at a glance. New switchgear and a USB Type-C charging port on the handlebars add to the bike’s modern conveniences. The Bear 650 is available in five vibrant colors: Broadwalk White, Petrol Green, Wild Honey, Golden Shadow, and Two Four Nine.
Royal Enfield Bear 650: Chassis and Hardware Enhancements
While the Royal Enfield Bear 650 shares its chassis with the Interceptor 650, it boasts notable changes in suspension and wheel configuration to suit its scrambler style. The wheels have transitioned from the Interceptor’s 18-inch setup to a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear combination, aligning with a more classic scrambler bike style. The front suspension now features a Showa USD fork, similar to the one on the Shotgun model but with different internal configurations, and the rear is equipped with new dual shock absorbers.
Suspension travel has been increased from 110mm/88mm on the Interceptor to 130mm/115mm on the Bear 650, which has raised the seat height to 830mm, making it the tallest among the 650cc lineup. The bike also comes fitted with MRF Nylorex block-pattern tires on spoked wheels, though these are not tubeless.
In terms of braking, the Bear 650 retains a 320mm front disc similar to the Interceptor but features a larger 270mm rear disc (up from 240mm). Dual-channel ABS is standard, with an option to disable ABS on the rear wheel, making it suitable for more adventurous rides. The ergonomics have been enhanced with a broader handlebar and repositioned footpegs, adding to the overall comfort and control.
Royal Enfield Bear 650: Engine Performance
Under the hood, the Royal Enfield Bear 650 is powered by the same 650cc engine seen across the 650cc lineup but features an improved two-into-one exhaust system with a single pipe on the right side. This modification has increased torque output from 52Nm to 56.5Nm at 5,150 rpm, while maintaining the power output of 47bhp at 7,250 rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox, as with previous models, though the Bear 650 has a taller final gearing thanks to a smaller rear sprocket compared to the Interceptor.
Final Thoughts
With its scrambler style, updated features, and practical performance upgrades, the Royal Enfield Bear 650 adds a fresh dimension to Royal Enfield’s 650cc lineup. Whether for city riding or off-road adventures, this model blends classic scrambler aesthetics with modern functionality, appealing to both enthusiasts and newcomers to the Royal Enfield brand.
